Ravi Shankar, Monterey Pop
I’d been a fan of Ravi Shankar years before I moved to Monterey, and have listened to his performance from the Monterey Pop film dozen of times. 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of that performance. I created this poster in tribute.
I threw four Elvis parties over a ten-year span. This invitation was inspired by the work of Nashville’s Hatch Show Print, a letterpress printer for country music stars.
I held a party to listen to The Flaming Lips’ experimental four-CD album. (I think I just wanted an excuse to design a companion poster for Elvis.) I used an element from the Zaireeka album cover and made posterized versions of the band’s promotional photo.
Uncle Lightnin’ refers to themselves as ‘Specialists in American Musics’. I played pedal steel guitar, mandolin, guitar, theramin, harmonica, and sang with the band for a couple of years — and I made a few posters.
